El tronco esquelético, la parte del cuerpo compuesta de la columna vertebral (la espalda y el cuello), los hombros y la pelvis , constituye el principal sistema de sostén del resto del cuerpo.

También denominada tronco o torso, esta zona del cuerpo aloja los huesos y articulaciones que soportan el peso del cuerpo, los músculos, tendones, ligamentos y centros nerviosos que hacen posible el movimiento y la flexibilidad del resto del cuerpo.

Debido a la complejidad de todas las tareas que desempeña, el tronco esquelético es vulnerable a una enorme cantidad de trastornos y enfermedades. Los problemas como la artritis degenerativa, los nervios comprimidos, las fracturas, los tumores, y los trastornos que también pueden producir dolor o discapacidad en otras partes del cuerpo, son comunes en el tronco esquelético.
